What is an Emergency Eyewash Station?

An Emergency Eyewash Station is emergency decontamination equipment that specifically flushes away contaminants from both eyes. You can install an eyewash in your workplace, or pair it with an Emergency Shower for a full decontamination solution.

Does every workplace require Eyewash Facilities?

Your need for an Emergency Eyewash Facility will depend on many factors including an onsite risk assessment, the type and quantity of chemicals used, the hazards at your site and the requirements that apply to your workplace.

Read our helpful blog to learn more about the Eyewash Station requirements.

How long should you use an Emergency Eyewash for when contaminated?

When using an Eyewash Station after chemical contamination or contact with a foreign object, you should flush the eye area for a minimum of 15 minutes. By flushing continuously for this length of time, you are best ensuring that the hazardous chemicals or objects are removed from the sensitive eye area.

Where should an eye wash station be located?

If you are installing an eyewash in your workplace, you should ensure it's close to chemical handling and storage areas, but not too close that it may affect the safety of the equipment. The Australian Standards explains that Emergency Eyewash Facilities be located between 2 and 10 metres from where chemical packages are opened.
