What is a safety sign?

A safety sign or placard is required for workplaces that store hazardous chemicals or dangerous goods. These safety signs ensure people in the work environment are aware of the potential hazards and dangers onsite.

Is Hazard Signage mandatory?

Warning about hazards and information relating to the responsibilities associated with hazardous chemicals or dangerous goods are required by law. If a workplace has a hazard, signage must be used to warn staff, contractors and other people about the potential dangers.

Do I need a safety sign if I already have Dangerous Good Signs?

Yes, you may still require additional safety signs if your are keeping dangerous goods at your site. While you may have the appropriate Dangerous Goods Signs installed, such as Class 3 Flammable Liquids, you'll also need additional an Hazard Sign, such as the 'No Smoking, No Ignition Sources' safety signage.

Are Australian Standard safety signs required in chemical storage?

Yes, Hazchem signs are required when you're storing dangerous goods that also require a warning, danger or Hazard Sign to warn people of the risks in that area. Refer to the Australian Standards for your dangerous goods to determine the exact signage required for your goods.
