Emergency Showers and Eyewash Stations that Comply with AS 4775

The Australian Standard AS 3780 states that an Emergency Eyewash Station and Safety Shower must be installed within 10 metres, but no closer than 2m to the location where corrosive substances are kept. The Australian Standard AS 1940 also states that a eyewash station must be within 10m, but no closer than 2m to locations where packages of flammable liquids are kept. If the quantities of flammable liquids exceed 2000L, a chemical safety shower must also be installed.

Some quantities of chemicals and dangerous goods classes require both an eyewash station and safety shower, while others may require just an eyewash station. We recommend consulting with the Australian Standards relevant to your site, as well as conducting an onsite risk assessment to determine any contamination hazards.

Are the Eyewash Stations hand or foot operated?

What are the compliance requirements for Eyewash and Safety Showers?

In Australia, the emergency decontamination equipment must meet the standards of AS 3780 . This includes the capabilities and construction of the equipment, as well as its usage, maintenance and location.

Where should I install Emergency Showers and Eyewash Facilities?

Install the equipment close to any areas that use open packages of dangerous goods or hazardous chemicals. The eyewash or emergency shower must be installed within 2 to 10 metres of the hazard.
