What is a Chemical Storage Cabinet?

A Chemical Storage Cabinet, otherwise known as a Dangerous Goods Storage Cabinet, Hazchem Cabinet or Safety Cabinet, is a solution specifically designed and constructed to keep dangerous goods in a safe and secure environment.

Features of a Chemical Storage Cabinet may differ depending on the dangerous goods class of the cabinet. However, some standard features across the range include spill sumps, perforated shelving, self-closing, lockable doors and the relevant dangerous goods diamond and hazard signage.

Why do I need a Chemical Storage Cabinet for my workplace?

Due to the range of risks that dangerous goods pose risk to people, property and environment, it’s essential that your goods are stored in a DG Cabinet designed for that class. Without compliant storage, you could risk the health and safety of your workplace, as well as penalties for non-compliance. Issues such as vapour emissions, leaks and spills, incompatibility hazards and unauthorised entry to the store must be controlled when you’re storing hazardous chemicals and dangerous goods indoors.

How do I select a Dangerous Goods Storage Cabinet?

To begin, it’s important that you know the class of your dangerous goods so you can ensure the correct Safety Cabinet for storage. To determine the class, check Section 14 of your safety data sheet (SDS), as well as the storage requirements in Section 7.

After the class or subdivision of dangerous goods has been identified, consider the capacity of Dangerous Goods Cabinet. Storemasta offers a range of sizes, as well as different configurations, so you can easily select a DG Cabinet that suits your operations.

Shop Storemasta’s Australian-Made Chemical Storage Cabinets online or speak with one of our Dangerous Goods Storage Consultants who can guide you in the right direction with your cabinet selection.

What capacities are available for Safety Cabinets?

The Storemasta Safety Cabinet range offers chemical storage capacities ranging from small 15L models to large 850L cabinets. Often, it’s more economical to purchase a larger cabinet, when you look at the cost per litre of chemical storage. If you’re unsure what size Chemical Cabinet to choose, get in touch with our Dangerous Goods Storage Consultants who can assist with your enquiry.

Are Dangerous Goods Storage Cabinets for indoor use only?

Due to the requirements of the Australian Standards, indoor Chemical Cabinets are constructed differently to Outdoor Chemical Stores. These cabinets are made for the indoor environment and offer a range of features to control the emission of harmful vapours and spills. For outdoor chemical storage, select a weatherproof Chemical Storage Container or stackable Dangerous Goods Storage Container made for your chemical class. This will allow your DG to be kept safe and compliant in the outdoor environment, while maintaining compliance with Australian Standards.

Are Storemasta Chemical Cabinets Australian Made?

When you buy a Storemasta Safety Cabinet, you’re buying a solution that’s been designed and manufactured in Australia. Since 1992, we’ve been building the leading range of Dangerous Goods Storage Cabinets that meet the requirements of the Australian Standards.

While other companies may claim that products are made in Australia, we have an inhouse team that manages the design, development, engineering and construction of our products so that you’re delivered a product that’s as Australian as we are. We’ll never import a flatpack and assemble it, claiming that’s it’s Australian made. Our products are proudly developed and distributed from our Tasmanian head office and manufacturing facility in Burnie.
